Podcasting is something I’ve been interested in for a long time- really since I first started listening to them in 2012. It’s really democratized audio-based media. With traditional radio, there are only so many frequencies available, and these are regulated heavily by both the FCC and large conglomerates. Getting a talk radio show for yourself would require passing through all of these gatekeepers, many of whom would require college degrees in journalism and strict rules. Podcasting does away with all of this. With a very low investment in a microphone, computer, and simple editing software, anyone can broadcast to the world. This is huge.
So, after years of thinking about it, I’ve taken my first plunge.
A month or so ago, my friend Dylan Dutson started a daily podcast where he gives analysis of current events from a libertarian perspective. We share a common libertarian ideology (in fact I played a part in converting him to it…), so I was very interested in the project.
As I’ve said before, one of the best ways to do cool stuff is to find people already doing it, and ask to join them. That’s just what I did here. I asked Dylan for an opportunity to come on his show, and we ultimately decided that I would have a weekly segment from now on, which we’re calling Mondays With Morgan. Rather than discuss current events, this segment will be dedicated to the history and philosophy of the libertarian movement.
The first episode was this week, where we did a short interview about how I came to identify as a libertarian.
I’m really excited about this new project and I can’t wait to see where it will lead!
